The Child

L'Enfant is a 2005 film directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne. The title translates as The Child but the film was released under its French title in the English-speaking world.
SynopsisBruno, 20, and Sonia, 18, are surviving on her welfare checks and Bruno's petty crimes when Sonia becomes pregnant. Bruno is immature but now must face the challenge of being a father. So he sells their baby to make some quick cash. Realizing his faulty logic, Bruno must do what it takes to make things right, and in the process, learn what it means to be a man.
Awards and recognitionL'Enfant won the "Palme d'Or" award in 2005 Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Film and Best Actor (for Jérémie Renier) at the European Film Awards.
The film was chosen as Belgium's official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards, but it failed to secure a nomination.
